Thousands of disadvantaged people and long-term jobseekers in the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough area now have the opportunity to receive specialist tailored advice and support to get into work.
Up to £5m is being provided by the Department for Work & Pensions for the ‘Health and Care Sector Work Academy’. This will help train those outside the sector to gain employment in it, and help those already working in the sector to progress.
Developed and delivered by City College Peterborough and the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority in partnership with the Government, the scheme will help train around 2,100 people – including disabled people and older people – to secure and progress in a variety of occupations in the health and care sector.
The Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority is working hard to deliver a leading place in the world to live, learn and work. They will achieve this by upgrading key transport infrastructure, addressing housing shortages, and meeting the pressing skills needs of businesses.
Skills for Care helps create a well-led, skilled and valued adult social care workforce. Our practical support helps leaders and managers recruit, develop and lead their staff, retaining them from entry level right through to senior leadership and management roles.
DWP’s objectives include building a more prosperous society by supporting people into employment, helping them realise their potential and improving outcomes for disabled people and those with health conditions. As part of its Labour Market Strategy, DWP also provides additional support for young people, single parents, women returning to employment, ex service personnel and black & minority ethnic groups.
