Susan attended a job fair at Peterborough Town Hall in May 18, where she spoke to a member of the Health and Care Sector Work Academy team (HCSWA) with regards to attending a level 1 health and social care course. Susan said that she had ‘always wanted to know more about care work’ and felt that this course was suitable for her.
Susan was booked in for an enrolment session with a HCSWA mentor who would support her throughout the course and with looking and applying for vacancies, interview practice and 1:1 sessions.
Before starting the course, Susan stated that she was ‘not happy with her job’ and ‘could not see good opportunities to learn new skills at work’. She felt the course could get her out of her ‘home environment and meet new people’.
While on the course Susan met with her mentor for a 1:1 and said that she would like support with her ‘confidence in interviews’ and some ‘mock interview practice’. Since finishing the course, Susan says that she now ‘feels more confident, especially going for interviews’.
Susan says that she would like to look for work as a caterer within the health and care sector as well as being a carer and would be interested in attending a level 2 health and social care course to improve her knowledge and confidence and feels more optimistic about her future and career progression
